Beatitudes For Friends Of People With Disabilities

Blessed are you who take the time to listen to difficult speech,
If I persevere, I can be understood.

Blessed are you who never bid me to "hurry up"
Or take my tasks from me and do them for me.
For I often need time, rather than help.

Blessed are you who stand beside me as I enter new and untried ventures,
Myself and You.

Blessed are you who ask for my help.
For my greatest need is to be needed.

Blessed are you who, with a smile encourage me to try once more.

Blessed are you who never remind me
That today I ask the same question twice.

Blessed are you who respect me and love me just as I am.

I love this poem. That is always something that I'm afraid of. That people won't listen to Savannah or think she's dumb just because she needs more time to do things. She is very smart in her own areas. I wish that people wouldn't judge others by how they look or talk. Today when Savannah came home from school I asked her how it was, if she liked her teachers, if she made any friends, and what she hadlearned. I got no responses. I couldn't help but cry. I knew that she wouldn't be able to tell me but I still always hope. I wish she could tell me how her day was or how she felt. I'm sure that you feel the same way with your precious little boy. Savannah is who she is and I will always love her.

Thank you for reminding us of all the angels around us...thank you for reminding us of all the opportunities they provide, so that we learn the true meaning of love.
